Quintana Roo offers considerably more archaeology than Tulum. The state stretches from Caribbean coastal cities to major inland Maya centres and smaller sites easily overlooked by travellers heading directly for the beaches.

Planning your route
Allow time for the southern part of the state. Inland sites can require considerably more driving than a coastal itinerary suggests. Check access arrangements and allow generous daylight for the journey.
